At the IAA’18 in addition to fully electric trucks for distribution – eTGM MAN and MAN eTGE – concern MAN also will introduce battery version of the new light van MAN TGE. Thus, MAN was one of the first automakers to introduce a fully-electric model for the whole range of urban logistics in the range from 3 to 26 tonnes GVW.

The reserve at elektroorgana MAN eTGE is up to 130 km that today is not too outstanding result

The Chairman of the Board of the German company MAN Truck & Bus AG Joachim Drees determined it as the most important application field of commercial vehicles with electric drive: "In urban areas electric trucks show all its benefits. They do not produce emissions leading to improved air quality in cities. In addition, they are very quiet: in the future this will allow, for example, to deliver food and goods to supermarkets at night, which greatly relieve the daily traffic. It is clear to us: the future of freight and passenger traffic in the cities belongs to electric vehicles."

The more obvious the trend of using electric drive in the segment of city buses. For this reason, a concern MAN has signed partnership agreements on cooperation with the municipalities of Munich, Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Monaco and Paris to be possible to apply the experience of everyday use the test batch of electric buses testing the production model MAN Lion's City E. This comprehensive testing ensure a high reliability of the future technology for public transport.

A prototype of a city bus Lion's City E will also be presented at the IAA this year.

Platooning will ensure the safety and the environment
At the airport of Berlin, where he held a preliminary press conference, the German concern MAN demonstrated the technology platooning for trucks. When it comes to so-called electronic "coupling", through which two or more trucks are connected. The first truck sets speed and direction of other vehicles in the convoy follow each other at a minimum distance of about 10-15 meters. The movement in the wind shadow can save up to 10 percent of the fuel. Also the following in the column head the car is the driver who can take over the management of the system, if necessary. "Platooning significantly contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and provides greater security on the highways. Electronic system the following truck responds to braking the momentum of the lead vehicle in just 5 milliseconds – faster than any man. This technology will significantly reduce the number and severity of collisions with front running vehicle," says Drees. Since the end of June in the framework of the pilot project technology platooning MAN Platoon is the tests on the A9 motorway between Munich and Nuremberg. Along with an expert in the field of logistics company DB Schenker, a manufacturer of commercial vehicles is testing the functionality and the technology in real traffic. The Fraunhofer Institute will also participate in road tests exploring the impact of the system on drivers.

Furthermore, additional safety is provided by brake assist (Emergency Brake Assist) truck and bus, and a system of cameras and monitors, which allows drivers to improve visibility when cornering and to prevent collisions and emergency situations that arise due to restricted visibility "dead zone". These systems have also been demonstrated in real-time.

MAN on the road to RIO
In the last years new models of buses and trucks became the shock force of the company MAN Truck & Bus at the IAA. Simultaneously there is continuous work on digital innovation. Joachim Drees says: "MAN passes from a manufacturer of commercial vehicles to the provider of intelligent and balanced transport solutions." In 2016 the concern MAN founded the digital brand RIO, linking the world of transport used public cloud platform and makes it more economical and environmentally friendly. To stress independent and open approach, 2017 RIO stands out as an independent brand under the leadership of the division of Volkswagen Truck & Bus.
The concern MAN it already offers its clients digital solutions called "MAN DigitalServices" based on this platform and designed for truck MAN. Thus, in the future customers MAN will begin to receive information about the vehicles and analytical data in real time and regardless of their location. In addition, customers will receive recommendations for the use of vehicles based on the collected data. At the IAA'18 concern MAN will provide additional services for the optimization of the analysis of the condition of the truck and maintenance management of the Park. With the platform in RIO as a strategic partner for customers MAN could benefit from the use of digital services in commercial vehicles.
