Recently, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) published an important report on the topic: "Electric buses in cities: the drive towards clean air and low CO2 emissions".
The report was, in particular, the analysis of such a slippery subject as the Economics of electric buses compared to conventional diesel buses.
However, calculations by BNEF say that the buses even at this still quite far from perfect battery has already significantly reduce operating costs compared to conventional buses with diesel fuel.

On such fundamental indicator, as the total cost of ownership (total cost of ownership) the buses in a significant number of cases show a more economical result

According to calculations by BNEF, the bus even with the smallest battery capacity of 110 kWh and the most expensive wireless charging can achieve economic parity (based on total cost of ownership) with the diesel car already at the distance of 60 000 km.
According to the schedule of even the most expensive bus with a battery capacity of 350 kWh, with a "slow" night charging at the bus depot can achieve parity on the total cost of ownership with a diesel competitor after 80 000 km mileage.

Despite the low operating costs, there are a number of problematic bottlenecks that slow the rate of spread of the buses and the main stumbling block is their yet a large multiple of the price in comparison with diesel buses. The report used the estimated price of the electric bus in the amount of $570 000, which "corresponds to the proposals of the European producers."
The report stated that: the price of the bus is equal to the price of a conventional diesel bus is approximately 2030. The cost of the battery pack in the total price of the electric bus will be reduced from the current unsustainable level of 26% to a quite acceptable 8%.

Today on the world market of buses is firmly dominated by the Chinese manufacturers, which increased their production very rapidly

Previously, BNEF predicted that by 2025, almost half of city buses running in the world will be electric, while the majority of them will be concentrated in China.

The introduction of electric buses in China started a decade ago, the 2008 Olympics in Beijing

in addition, in April, Bloomberg has published calculations that show that the process of introducing electric buses today exerts a more powerful influence on the world oil market (in terms of fuel substitution) the development of the market for passenger electric vehicles.

P. S. At the same time in China in some cities of a dozen that have trolleybus contact network (for example, in Shanghai, Guangzhou) the reverse process of abandonment of the buses in favour of trolleybuses are quite traditional.

Design of modern Chinese trolleybuses do not lag behind from the bus

This is due to the excessive cost of battery electric buses in actual lack of longevity and too long recharging (against the manufacturers), and with no trolley restrictions on the term of service, against such 10-year period from buses, for which they simply do not have time to pay off.

Trolleybuses with an Autonomous course or buses of the type IMC is economically more efficient and more durable than just battery electric buses

Plus the actual carrying capacity of the trolley is yet still even higher than the diesel buses, not to mention the buses. In this context, quite logical would not be the rapid introduction of particularly expensive buses with ultra-fast charging (OC), and cheaper and more practical electric bus with dynamic recharging (IMC), i.e. old- trolleybuses with a larger stand-alone course that would be true for our country.
