Electric buses China jostle diesel counterparts

The bus market in China for the first half of 2018 grew by 6.9%

In January-June 2018 bus market in China according to the China Association of automobile manufacturers (CAAM) increased by 6.9% to 210,8 million, a plus of 15.8 thousand bus chassis (-32,3%).

Diesel buses and chassis in all classes had 161,5 million (+2.9%, and the share of 71.3% of the market), and on petrol cars mostly in small and medium classes – 29.5 thousand (-26,7% market share 13%), although even among big machines marked 43 diesel bus (an increase by 8.5 times!), obviously, school.

Natural gas (methane) was only of 1.53 thousand cars (-74,6% with a market share of 6.8%). On the pure electric buses of all classes had 30.5 thousand (growth by 2.2 times, the share of 14.5% of the total market), but of course, in different classes, this ratio varies. Still 3,38 million (the share of 1.6%, and the reduction of the segment by 1.5%) were in rechargeable hybrids. Non-hybrids were only 9 units (growth in 9 times) to a small class. Hydrogen fuel cells (fuell cell) for the first time was 85 cars against zero in the same period last year.

Now consider the market in the "class" section. The share of machinery large class (with chassis) with a capacity of more than 61 passenger amounted to 34.6 thousand (+24.2% and the share of 6.9% of the market). Of which the share of urban machines 20.5 million (+70.2 per cent), trunk liners amounted to 10.1 thousand (is 16,5%), and tourist coaches 3,56 million (+0.2 percent).

On the buses (read: police) had 200 units (+61,3%) and 406 units on large school buses (growth is 2.2 times). More interesting figures on the power plant, so the diesel cars was in a big class 15.7 million (-3,1% share in the classroom 45.2%) and electric buses with 15.6 thousand (growth by 2.9 times, the share of 45%), almost got it, gas cars totaled 675 units (-82,4% share 2%), the fuel cell was first registered 52 units.

In the mid-size class (from 31 to 60 places) of complete buses sold for 27.6 million (+38.4 per cent) and 3.0 thousand chassis (-50,5%). The total share of the "midibuses" amounted to 13.5%. Urban models sold 13.3 thousand (growth in 2,5 times), interurban and 8.1 million (-12.5 percent), travel 1.4 thousand (-3.7 percent), 1,1 thousand special (+77,8%) and 1.42 thousand school (-12,7%). On the power plant the midibuses (with chassis) were distributed as follows: 13.7 thousand had on a diesel (-20,4%, the share in the class 44,8%), 2.7 thousand – for petrol (+48.3 per cent share of 8.8%), 12.6 thousand – on the buses (an increase of 2.6 times, a percentage of 41,2%), and rechargeable hybrids – 790 units (-8,7%), LPG cars – 768 units. (-40%) and the first 30 units of the fuel cell.

Small buses (10 to 30 seats) were sold 148,6 thousand (-0.5%) and 12.7 thousand chassis (-25,9%) – a total of 161.3% (71,2% of the total market). Here the city buses specialized purpose took a small share of 16.6 million (-14,8%), long – distance- 6.9 thousand (-35,2%), tourism – 7.4 thousand (growth in 2,1 times), special buses (obviously, not only the police but also medical, postal, etc.) amounted to 17.6 thousand (-8,6%), the school had of 3.34 million (-14,3%) and the largest share is occupied universal purpose which amounted to 96,9 million (+4.6 per cent). Diesel models made up 132.2 thousand (+7%, the share of 82% in the class), petrol – 26,8 thousand (-30%, the share of 16.6%), small buses made up 2.31 million (-35,3%, the proportion of 1.4%). Gas small buses were quite unpopular – sold only 89 units (-90,2%). Fuel cells – 3 bus.

Among the leading manufacturers, for example, in a large class is far ahead of Zhengzhou Yutong Group with 10.4 million (+19.3 per cent), with her in the Top 3 are Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry with 3.6 million (+31,4%) and BYD Auto Industry from 3.51 million (+64,7%). In the class "MIDI" lead Zhengzhou Yutong Group from 10.7 million (+7,1%), Dongfeng Motor Corporation from 3.17 million (-15,5%). However, this manufacturer in the amount of 2 thousand bus chassis and if we take only complete buses, on 2nd place, FAW Toyota Motor Sales from 2.28 thousand (+43%) and in 3rd – The Xiamen Golden Dragon Van with the growth of 2.15 times. In a small class in the unconditional leaders – Jiangling Motors Holding with 44.9 thousand (+9.4 percent) of licensed vehicle Ford Transit of different generations. On 2nd place- Baoding Changan Bus Manufacturing from 17.3 million (+30%), although the firm announces the implementation from January to June 38 thousand buses (+30,4%). By the way, Changan Bus, introduced in April, a new trademark of bus Kaicheng launched on the market in April of this year has been well received by customers and has already earned the title of "Most promising brand". At the 3rd place among the "kids" – Nanjing Iveco Motor with 16.8 million (+11,1%) are also licensed vans Iveco Daily from different generations.
