UTS announces a new campaign on road safety

Operator of toll roads (ossp) announced the start of annual campaigns on security. The objective of these measures is to prevent dangerous situations and to once again draw the attention of drivers on the existing security problems. First organized by the ossp campaign – "Highway is not the place to stay".

The reason was that in 2018 ossp recorded on serviced plots 282 accidents that occurred because of drivers staying on the sidelines. In particular, 14 the accident occurred on the highway M-3 "Ukraine", 207 – M-4 "don" (ossp maintains the parcel with 225-km 633 km) and 7 M-11 "Moscow – Saint-Petersburg". In the period from January to July 2019 happened 182 similar accident: 21 - M-3, 139 - M-4 and 22 - M-11.

Despite the fact that the rules of the road (para 16.1.) on all highways prohibit the stopping or Parking of vehicles outside of special areas, many drivers continue to Park in the wrong places, ignoring the law. Such actions provoke road accidents, unfortunately, sometimes fatal.

From July to August 2019, the operator of UTS are actively informed the drivers about the existing rest areas on the roads M-3, M-4 and M-11, where it is allowed to stay: leaflets with a map comfortable and, most importantly, safe sites users can get directly to the toll booths (PVP) serviced by the company sites. Messages don't stay on the sidelines continue to be broadcast on the scoreboard variable information.

In September, 2019 in all sales offices ossp will also set posters depicting common reasons for stopping drivers on break, rest, walk and even sleep. The team of UTS are urged not to stop on the roadside to protect their lives and the lives of other road users. Chief operating Director of "ossp" Thierry Puy said: "Emergency commissioners ossp entrusted them to patrol sections of toll roads 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, be sure to come to stop on the roadside to drivers and asking them to drive to the rest areas, but, unfortunately, do not always have time – and it happens accident: a parked car behind enters the other. That's why we ask drivers not to stop on the roadside without an important reason."

First Deputy General Director of "ossp" Oleg Trofimov added: "In case of emergency, if you need to stop on the roadside, for example, the driver became ill or his vehicle is damaged, it is necessary to observe the rules of the emergency stop: turn on the alarm, wear a reflective vest, put a sign on an emergency stop to immediately move behind the safe barrier and bring back all the passengers of your car. Remember: in any case can not stay in the car. Then make sure to call our emergency commissioners".
