The first pancake is always lumpy
Last Sunday took place the baptism of Sergey Sirotkin for the first time in his career he performed in the Grand Prix of "Formula-1". But the debut of Russian driver wasn't as he expected. Sergey Sirotkin first of the pilots was out of the race — brakes. The problem turned out to be curious.
Initially it was known only that the brakes overheated and failed. Later it turned out that everything happened because of a pack of fast food. He somehow ended up on the highway, got into the intake and broke the cooling. Because of this, Sirotkin had to Park outside of the track on the fifth lap.
Russian rider started from the 19th position. During the first laps he has failed to improve their situation, but this was not observed and backlog. On the sixth circle Sirotkin stopped the car outside the track. "I have no brakes, I drove past the turn and stopped," — said the driver on team radio immediately after the incident. The pilot and the car was not injured.
"You know, I've been here [in the paddock Formula 1] a lot of time, and until now everything was about as I expected. But this weekend was very hard. Something incomprehensible. Something... We did not expect this, I didn't expect this at all. Today I was hoping to have a good clean race, to at least to learn and to feel confident in the car and use it then. It is a pity that did not happen. This is a difficult time, but the best thing we can do now is try to forget about troubles, to learn the lessons and move on," — said Sergey Sirotkin in an interview.
On signing of the contract with a command "Formulas-1" Williams was officially announced in January. Prior to that, at least for a few months there were rumors about the possible appearance of Sergey Sirotkin in the "Royal races". At the same time about the possible participation of the Russian racer for the first time started talking in 2013. 22-year-old Russian became a partner of the canadian racer lance Stroll. As noted in Williams, Sirotkin made the team a strong impression during tyre tests in Abu Dhabi, where he first piloted FW40.
In 2017 Sirotkin was made in "Formula 2" and participated in "the 24 hours of Le Mans." Previously, he noted in the program SMP Racing: in 2015, he began to participate in the GP2 series and in the first season was the best rookie, finishing the season in third position.
