Used in automobiles internal combustion engines may vary in characteristics, type of fuel and some operating principles, however, there are General things. In particular, in all internal combustion engines used a camshaft, which is responsible for movement of the intake and exhaust valves. However, the British company Camcon Automotive found the camshaft extra part: she believes that the waiver will save the engine from extinction.

British engineers instead of "obsolete" camshaft decided to use the electronically-controlled valves. They work completely independently from each other, so that a common camshaft does not need them.

This scheme allows a more flexible approach to the question of timing. On each valve there is one activator in the form of a special electronic mechanism. In General, such a system, called Intelligent Valve Technology, is able to subtly control the time of opening and closing each valve separately.

as a result, the internal combustion engine finally able to breathe a full breast. Intelligent Valve Technology can instantly adapt it to any conditions and requirements. You want maximum return? Please. You need to shift to maximize fuel economy? No problem.

It is expected that the developed Camcon Automotive system will help to reduce fuel consumption and with it CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 15-20% in comparison with the most efficient engines of our time.

Nominated for breakthrough of the decade? It would be desirable to compare the Camcon Automotive with a typical "British scientists," but the invention of this company for the automotive industry is not a revelation. Engineers are not the first dozen years of trying to implement similar technology. A few years ago made himself known company Koenigsegg (Yes, the one which produces the same hypercar), who has promised to introduce electronically controlled actuators valve series motors.

Then company founder Christian von Koenigsegg (Christian von Koenigsegg) explain the principle of operation of such a system in the following way: "I see it this way: if you compare the engine with the piano, and valves with keys, then with the camshaft you play the piano with a broom".

Koenigsegg even started to cooperate with Chinese Qoros, which has started to test prototypes. But the things are there. So the idea is in the air for a long time. Now it is important for practical implementation. So we're not going to believe Camcon Automotive on the word: talk about a major breakthrough will be possible only after the first production cars with the new technology goes on sale.
