According to statistics, traffic police, the number of victims of road accidents each year is gradually declining. However, the absolute value is still huge: in 2017 on the roads died 19 088 people. This was an increase in the number of accidents involving pedestrians: if in 2016 they accounted for 30.7 % of the total number of accidents, in 2017-m — already to 31.4 %. To reduce accidents, the government is discussing the possibility of introducing raised pedestrian crossings.

About this initiative the head of the design Committee, "the Easy road" when Rosstandart Alexander Shumsky told the newspaper "Izvestia". According to him, until the end of 2018, it is expected adoption of the draft provisional national standard (PNST) under the working title "Model of the organization of movement in the courts."

New PST will be distributed not only at yards but also on the roads near entrances and playgrounds. That's where you plan to apply the so-called raised crosswalks. It is expected that they will represent a wide artificial roughness on the upper part of which is coated with a Zebra. The height of this unusual "speed bump" should be 10 cm above the road level.

The authors of the project expect that kind of roughness drivers will automatically slow down. They will involuntarily pay attention to it, does the road pedestrian. Thus, new transitions will be useful for at least two factors. First, the motorists will in any case move more slowly. Second, they will more closely monitor the traffic situation in the area of such humps.

At the moment the standard "humps" already allows the creation of raised crossings. However, in this document there is no clear recommendation. Mentioned only trapezoidal profile of this design. Width of a Zebra needs to be more than four meters.

It is also worth noting the positive effect from the point of view of pedestrians: they begin to make increasing use of raised crossings in their area less likely to cross the roadway in the wrong place. Obviously, due to the confidence that drivers will be more willing to give way at the sight of a Zebra.
