Russia has finally begun to use electronic passports of vehicles (sprts designed). It was originally planned that the country will fully switch to them from 1 July 2018, however, the introduction of the new format over and over again postponed. Earlier it was reported that the problem lies in the fact that insurance companies have not yet interacted with the system administrator e-PTS — JSC "Electronic passport".

Fun fact: the first e-passport was given to 11 trailers intended for the carriage of dangerous goods.

To establish the identity of the driver, the inspector of traffic police it is only necessary to photograph it using your tablet or smartphone. The system checks the driver database and will show if he's got a driver's license. According to Mikhail Chernikov, the inspectors have already received more than 20 thousand tablets.
