Putin signed a law toughening penalties for fleeing from the scene of an accident drivers

Change of the stricter liability of drunk drivers and fleeing was introduced to article 264 and the 2641 of the criminal code

Vladimir Putin today signed initiated by the government of the Russian Federation Federal law on strengthening of responsibility of drivers who fled the scene of an accident, which injured or killed people.
This law published on the Internet portal of legal information.
Now, if the driver fled the scene of an accident where there are victims, according to the law the penalty would be:
compulsory works for a period of 3 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for the same period;
or deprivation of liberty for a term up to 4 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to 3 years.
In case, the driver fled the scene of the accident, which killed people, the punishment will be:
imprisonment for the term from 2 till 7 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to 3 years.
In the case of death in an accident two or more persons terms of imprisonment will be:
from 4 to 9 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to 3 years.
