In the Western part of the Northern Italian city of Genoa in 12 hours of the day (13 h GMT) struck the cable-stayed section of the bridge "Ponte Morandi" (or as it is called by the locals "the Brooklyn bridge"), built in 1967. According to the Italian media, at the time of the crash on a stranded plot there were two dozen cars that fell into the river and was crushed by the wreckage of the bridge. According to the interior Ministry of Italy, the number of deaths exceed 35 people, the number of injured has reached 14, of which five are in serious condition. Another 10 people are still missing. Long caused concern among experts for its deterioration, the bridge has been repaired and they believe that the collapse occurred either because of poor carried out repairs, or due to lightning strike in one of the pillars of the bridge. At the crash site are carried out rescue work with dogs and 200 firefighters who are looking for people under the rubble. On the scene flew the interior Minister and later Prime Minister of Italy Sergio Mattarello.
