After a couple of days will come in 2018, which will bring us a lot of interesting news. Something will remain, something will change. Rosavtodor also decided to link another innovation with the arrival of the new year: January 1, 2018 some Federal highways will receive different names.

In fact, about the impending change of names has been known for many years. All the standards prescribed in the order of the Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation from 7 February 2007 No. 16 "About approval of Rules of assignment of road identification numbers" and the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation from November 17, 2010 928 N Moscow "About the list of public roads of Federal importance".

In particular, they mentioned that the capital letter "M" is intended to refer to Federal highways, connecting Moscow with the capitals of foreign States and administrative centers of the subjects of Russia. Because of this highway M-18 "Kola" M-20 "Pskov" in a few days will change the name to R-21 "Kola" and the R-23 Saint Petersburg-Pustoshka-Nevel-border with the Republic of Belarus.

Also the new rule does not correspond to the highway M-11 "Narva" M-29 "Caucasus", which will now become A-180 Narva and R-217 "Caucasus". And the number of the M-11 is now assigned to the highway Moscow — St.-Petersburg. The letter "A" is used to mean "roads of Federal or regional significance, being the entrance to major transportation nodes and special objects or by road from the administrative center of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation that do not have road connection with Moscow to the sea or river ports, airports and railway stations or the boundaries of other States; for the road connecting the Federal road between". Under the letter "P" indicates the road between the administrative centers of the Russian Federation.

Here are a few examples: road from St. Petersburg to Finland was called A-181 "Scandinavia" (formerly M-10). The route Bryansk — Belarus will be possible to identify the index of A-240 (formerly M-13), the road from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok, room A-370 "Ussuri" (formerly M-60 "Ussuri").

New names are input, however, until 31 December 2017 it was possible to use the old names.
