The typical development of military equipment is not taken into account its ecological class, the amount of harmful emissions and other aspects that concern the "green". However, since April of the current year in the U.S. army undergoing field testing hydrogen-powered Chevrolet Colorado pickup ZH2. It uses a fuel cell, the only waste product of which is distilled water. Now General Motors has introduced SURUS, which in the future will allow to create an environmentally friendly freight transport of different purposes.

The acronym stands for Silent SURUS Utility Rover Universal Superstructure, which can be translated as "silent ATV with the universal add-in". SURUS was conceived as a platform on which you can create a transport of the most different specialisations. It can be army truck, fire truck, police car and so on.

Based on SURUS lies the hydrogen system of the second generation of Hydrotec. The car is propelled by two electric motors. As a power buffer uses a lithium-ion battery. The truck has polnopravnym the chassis, then have him turn all the wheels. This feature significantly improves maneuverability.

According to the developers, the power reserve when fully filled tanks is approximately 643 kilometres. In addition to the absence of harmful emissions and quietness to the benefits SURUS engineers include the ability to quickly refuel. In addition to this futuristic truck is able to generate water and electricity. Length of the platform is five meters width and 2.3.

These days (from 9 to 11 October) SURUS exhibited at the autumn exhibition of the Association of the U.S. Army. Together with Tank research center of the U.S. army (U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center) General Motors hopes to start a deeper integration of hydrogen technologies in the military sphere. SURUS meanwhile, remains a concept.
