The company from Zuffenhausen has applied for a patent of an active rear diffuser
Porsche, as it turned out, in September last year filed a patent application of the active diffuser. Wonder why no one in the automotive world today is not patented active diffuser?
The firm's representatives claim that the active element is at least one element of the servo. And how imagination can play engineers from Stuttgart, we know, so maybe in the future we will see a set of movable elements.
The potential solutions is huge, given the size of massive diffusers that are installed, for example, the Porsche 911 GT3 R and 911 (991.2). The question of size is removed from the movable aerodynamic element, as if required it simply folds. As well as an active diffuser can give the profile of any complexity, and its size can be reduced.
In fact, the German manufacturer claims that the active diffuser can "hide" even in cutouts for exhaust pipes, or to stretch it the full width of the stern, if the car is electrically powered and has no exhaust system.
For questions about the details of the patent engineers keep silent or say: "the Principle of operation of the rear diffuser is based on the laws of Newton and Bernoulli, they can all learn from the Internet".
But seriously, it should be noted that not all the patents that go to the firms, including Porsche, reach implementation in hardware. You may recall the patent from Porsche 2015 of the internal combustion engine with variable compression ratio, which is still not implemented, at the same time, Infiniti has announced the beginning of serial production "turbochetverki" with similar technology in the next year.
Let's hope for a speedy implementation of the active diffuser in the following projects Porsche. Mark has already introduced active front splitter on the 991 Turbo and Turbo S, thanks to which managed to slightly increase ground clearance. So why, with active aerodynamic elements in the front, not the same done in the rear?
