Over the past decade the development process of the car was significantly changed. Every year more work is done on the computer. Last but not least this also applies to the design, although even today, as a hundred years ago, artists have to build a full-size model out of clay. With the help of augmented reality glasses Microsoft HoloLens, Ford specialists are going if not to completely abandon the creation of real prototypes, even optimize this process.

Futuristic glasses allow designers and engineers to visualize and experiment with design changes in a matter of minutes or even seconds, instead of wasting days or weeks on completion of the clay models. HoloLens work without wires, with each instance have their own processor that monitors the environment and the user's movements to accurately simulate the holographic layers at any angle, allowing you to take a virtual walk around the vehicle.

Ford already held a test operation of Microsoft technologies in their design Studio in Dearborn (Michigan). Now the American group have decided to use HoloLens on a global scale. The system allows collaborative development: designers and engineers from anywhere in the world can view the project and make suggestions in real time.

It is unlikely in the near future, virtual reality will completely replace the clay models. Full-scale models will continue to ensure the effect of the physical presence of computers is not yet capable of this. However, the use of the two technologies will save you months or even years for the design of a new car.
