New sedan Toyota Avalon followed in the footsteps of the Camry

In Russia the senior sedan of Toyota is Camry. However, in the US the role of the automobile, the flagman is assigned to Avalon. Historically, he is the older brother of the Camry, sharing her platform and powertrains. With the announcement of the new generation Toyota Avalon in Detroit, this situation has not changed.

As fresh Camry (to Russia it has not yet reached), Avalon moved to the platform of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). For the first time about it it became known in 2015, and the debut of the model based on it was the Prius. Since then, the Japanese company says for every time increase of efficiency, lower centre of gravity and improved handling.

Body avalon was lower by 2.5 cm Wheelbase added about 5 cm, and the overhangs thus decreased. In the end, the length of the car will be 4 978 mm, distance between axles — 2 870 mm., the Designers managed to reduce the drag coefficient to 0.27 (was 0,28).

The hardware in General has not changed. Toyota Avalon will continue to be offered in two versions. The first one will keep the conservative attitude: in this case, there is a 3.5-liter atmospheric V6 (2GR-FKS) with a compression ratio of 11.8:1. Its impact is not reported, but the example of fresh Camry, you can expect to 305 horsepower and 362 N·m. This variant of the sedan will be equipped with eight-speed automatic transmission Direct Shift-8AT and front wheel drive.

The second modification Toyota Avalon hybrid will be. She got the power plant of the Toyota Hybrid System (THS II), which combines a 2.5-liter chetyrehstennoy motor Dynamic Force with a high degree of compression 14:1 and the electric motor operating at a voltage of 650 V. Avalon Hybrid Sedan will get a CVT. The drive shaft will also be front.

In the list of suggested Toyota Avalon options included full led headlights, adjustable suspension Adaptive Variable Suspension and a JBL audio system with 14 speakers total capacity of 1 200 watts. With ten airbags and a set of Toyota Safety Sense P, is able to identify obstacles and to stop even in front of pedestrians already included in the basic equipment.

The Americans will be able to purchase a Toyota Avalon in the spring. Sales in other countries is not reported as a large sedan designed specifically for the United States, which are the main market. Deliveries to Russia are not discussed.
