A new generation of London taxi, and get the pure electric version
Recently was shown the photographs of testing the latest electric urban taxis from LTC (London Taxi Company) in extreme conditions. The tests are far from the Arctic circle in Norway.
One of the most important issues of modern electric cars is the capacity and the efficiency of the battery at temperatures below zero. That is why the test is performed on North conditions of ambient temperature from -15°C. Engineers need to make sure that the mileage of the car is not will suffer in great measure on the drop in air temperature.
The battery, of course, the main "black cab", but special attention the comfort of driver and passengers. Heating and ventilation of the vehicle should be on a very high level. In addition, feel and driving characteristics – grip with dear, throttle response, and also the quality of visibility with the driver's seat. During the tests, engineers will be able to make additional changes to setup for maximum balance between controllability and comfort of movement. By the way, LTC was not enough for sea trials in Norway, because they will freeze your "cabs" in huge refrigerators to temperatures as much as -49°C. These tests will be carried out with the purpose of guaranteeing the car start even after idle in the cold night.
In addition to cooling, the 'black cab' run-in, by placing in conditions of extremely high ambient temperatures. And only after that the car will be completely ready for sales, scheduled for the last quarter of 2017. As the Director said at the firm of Wolfram Liedtke: "Our new car was developed on the basis of two engineering principles – quality and endurance to meet the needs of the demanding cycle of operation in the taxi. On the moment, we are approaching the end of the program development and will soon start full-fledged mass production on new facilities in the city of Anstey that near Coventry."
CEO of the London Taxi Company Chris gubbey said: "2017 is a milestone for LTC I am proud to run a company in such an interesting time. On our new factory in Ansty for the first time in the world serial will produce all-electric taxi."
By the way, the new center LTC will open March 22, 2017 years, by investing in 300 million pounds from the parent company Geely.
