Mazda specialists are going to introduce a new generation of the family SkyActive 2
About the SkyActive engine 2 with a new ignition system HCCI, Mazda said back in 2014. Now there is information that in the autumn of this year Mazda is going to present the second generation of SkyActive engines and to disclose details of the design. The debut is expected in 2018, the new generation Mazda 3 for the 2019 model year.
Interestingly, the Mazda 3 the next generation will not get the new architecture of the body. The Japanese manufacturer follows the rule – architecture from scratch every two generations. After 2019, the new gasoline engine SkyActive 2 system HCCI will appear on the Mazda 6.
Mazda engineers have developed a HCCI – ignition system fuel-air mixture without spark. The principle of operation as in diesel engines ignition occurs by compression and heating of air-fuel mixture. But the engine will only run on medium and high speeds, on the "lower classes" will continue to work with candles. With this engine dramatically reduced the average fuel consumption – about 30% savings, consequently, emissions of harmful substances.
Mazda specialists have long engaged in the development of powertrain performance. Japanese engineers managed to reduce mechanical losses and increase the efficiency of the internal combustion engine.
Moreover, the third generation of SkyActive engines are planning to launch in 2025. Development in this direction will return to the market the MPS version with an engine capacity of 2.5 liters.
And in 2021, Mazda is going to release a hybrid with a rotary engine.
