The Japanese SUV of new generation will be produced in Kaluga in November 2017
The past generation SUV Mitsubishi Pajero Sport was one of the best-selling class, and its Assembly was carried out in Kaluga. Everything changed with the arrival of the new model: during the crisis the manufacturer decided not to risk it and postponed investments in localized production. Now Mitsubishi have announced the resumption of production in Russia is a new generation model.
Until now, the new Pajero Sport was imported from Thailand, which imposes certain imprint on its value. However, Japanese companies have considered the positive trends in the Russian automotive market: in the period from April to July, it rose by 14 %, while sales of Mitsubishi Motors itself and is increased by 29 %.
Here's how commented on the situation, the President and chief Executive officer of "MMC Rus" Naoya Nakamura: "Encouraging the revival of the Russian automotive market, and we are ambitious in their plans for the future. Starting in January 2017, the company has significantly increased sales figures. Renewing the localization of production of the Pajero Sport, we not only invest in our positions, but in the Russian market as a whole. The company has set ambitious growth targets in the Russian market and intends to expand its product range to our customers."
By the beginning of next year at the plant in Kaluga is planned to create an additional 440 jobs. The pipeline will start in November. It is noteworthy that in want to gather Mitsubishi Pajero Sport standard with a full production cycle, with welding and painting of bodies. However, not all versions of the SUV will receive the Russian residence permit: we will produce only diesel versions, while the petrol will continue to be shipped from Thailand.
About the expected change yet no one speaks. As practice shows, the localization of production does not always reduce the final cost of the machines. However, if Mitsubishi plans to sell 7000 "Sports" in 2018, she will probably have to make concessions.
