A car without a steering wheel and pedals corresponds to the fifth level of autonomy
There is little doubt that in two or three decades the concept of "private car" will be a throwback. We will all be transplanted into self-contained "pods", which we will get to work, home, school and store. His vision of an unmanned "bus" was presented by Volkswagen in the form of an updated concept Sedric.
The first "Cedric" was presented in the spring at the Geneva motor show. This time the designers made some changes to its exterior and interior. Now the car is painted in matte gray color, along the body stretch white and red stripes, and on caps of the front wheels caused the number "42" (the manufacturer does not disclose its value).
Inside the Volkswagen Sedric provides a double sofa and two armchairs with reclining seats. The spacious interior allows passengers to stretch their legs or take their baggage with them.
But a steering wheel and pedals is not here: the concept corresponds to the fifth level of autonomy according to the classification of SAE, that is, can do without the assistance of the driver in all situations. By the way, the essence of the car is hidden even in its name: Sedric is an acronym for Self-Driving Car.
It is assumed that to call robotaxi you can use the mobile app. You only need to specify the destination, all the rest will be done Sedric. In Volkswagen believe that such vehicle will be a serial by 2025.
