The reason lies in the too dirty exhaust
Many people still associate Chinese automotive industry with backwardness, lack of innovation and the widespread copying of famous brands. However, some facts suggest otherwise. Take the environmental question: for the current time China is the world leader in volume production of electric cars: left behind and the United States, and Japan. Now the government of the PRC more firmly took up the fight against the machines, whose performance exhaust are considered too "dirty" from the first of January it is planned to stop the production of 553 models. And some of them are even Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
About the unprecedented tightening reported by Bloomberg, citing data from the China center of technical maintenance of vehicles (China Vehicle Technology Service Center). Full list of models that fall under environmental sanctions, has been kept secret. Mentioned only three cars with the domestic Chinese indices: Audi FV7145LCDBG (apparently, this crossover Audi Q3), Mercedes-Benz BJ7302ETAL2 (sedan Mercedes-Benz E-Class last generation) and SGM7161DAA2 Chevrolet (Chevrolet Cruze last generation).
A total of 553 blocked production models. This number seems incredible that in Russia the diversity of the new car market was estimated at about 270 models! But keep in mind that we are talking about China, where in addition to global brands presents a huge number of local companies with a rich variety. According to the Secretary-General of China Association of passenger vehicles of Dongsu Tsui (Cui Dongshu), 553 of the car — "very small" percentage of the total number of cars manufactured in the country.
At the same time, an analyst at China Merchants Securities Co van Lusen (Wang Liusheng) noted that only the first step of the government, and the near future the number of restrictions will only increase. A few months ago Chuanfu Wang (Wang Chuanfu), Chairman of BYD, one of the largest manufacturers of electric cars in China, suggested that conventional cars with petrol and diesel engines could be banned in China in 2030.
The Chinese government has developed a plan that in 2018, 8 % of sales of each manufacturer should be in the electric cars and hybrids. This level will be raised to 10% in 2019 and 20% in 2025-M.
