Major car companies invest large sums in the development of unmanned technology. It is expected that by 2020, the sale will feature the cars that will be able to do without the help of the driver. To accelerate the development of promising technology in Europe was launched a research project L3Pilot. He will be engaged in testing of "smart" cars.

One of the key organizers L3Pilot is the EU. He not only gathered producers together, but also gave them 36 million euros (total project budget is estimated at 68 million). Coordinator L3Pilot selected the largest automobile concern of Europe — Volkswagen.

In addition, German companies in the research will participate 12 manufacturers: Audi (though it is part of Volkswagen, but is listed separately), BMW, Daimler, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Honda, Opel, PSA, Renault, Toyota and Volvo. For tests to be built 100 cars.

The organizers plan to fully test the capabilities of drones. To do this, they will be tested in a variety of conditions: machines will have to Park, drive around town and highway, and cross the state border. Large-scale European project will take place across 11 countries.

Tests within L3Pilot will last for two years, and the first tests should start already this month. In the development of unmanned systems for a compact car will help the major component suppliers and research institutes. But despite the unification efforts such number of producers, it is not about the creation of some single system that could be installed on the machine of any brand.
