In the notation of modifications of the model line Audi long overdue change. The traditional designation was tied to engine size – 2.0, 3.0, 4.2. Now it will be replaced with a two-digit indices that characterize the engine power, but only indirectly. Graduation will begin with number 25, with a step of 5 units to reach 70. After the digital index will give an indication of the type of engine TFSI, TDI, e-tron or g-tron, and the final addition will be the famous "quattro", if such is to take place.

For understanding: if it says 30, it means the motor power 110 – 130 HP, if 45 – 230 – 252 HP, cars with engines more powerful 544 HP (400 kW) will receive the designation of 70. What is the logic here is not clear, will just have to remember. However, according to Audi, models, sports models, S, RS and R8 retain the same designation, then the number 70 can be seen just aft the flagship model of Audi A8 W12 or the upcoming versions of the flagship electric vehicle.

The presentation of the modified indexation will take place this fall on the new generation Audi A8. Old name 3.0 TDI (286 HP) will be replaced by A8 50 TDI and the 3.0 TFSI model with engine capacity of 340 HP call 55 A8 TFSI. Double digit index and get Audi A1 engine 95 HP – 25 TFSI.

The press service of Audi said that the need to change options refer to the model line-up arose due to the active introduction of versions with electric drive. "Clarity and consistency of structuring notation depending on capacity facilitate orientation in the models," explained Dietmar Voggenreiter, Board member for sales and marketing.
