The Italian car was the fastest crossover on the planet
"No week without a new record Nurburgring" — under this slogan the European manufacturers launched a massive attack on the cult track. Just recently became aware of the adventures of the coupe Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which became the fastest production car on the planet, and now Alfa Romeo announced that the Stelvio Quadrifoglio broke the record for crossovers.
The car was able to pass the "Northern loop" for 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds. The previous record holder was the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, which was required for 8 more seconds (7:59,74).
To understand how fast that is: a similar result had previously shown Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 and the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. The head does not fit as the Italians were able to build a SUV, able to travel on equal terms with these supercars.
Stelvio Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio is equipped with a 510-horsepower 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo, 8-speed automatic transmission ZF and branded all-wheel drive Q4. The manufacturer notes the record in the class body rigidity in torsion and ideal weight distribution on axes – 50:50.
Behind the wheel of the SUV was the Oscar-winning pilot France Fabio (Fabio Francia). It is noteworthy that he ran the Giulia Quadrifoglio model, which was recently recognized as the fastest sedan. It is equipped with the same powertrain, and the lap time was 7:32.
