Linked to Volkswagen AG "desligada" most cars in Europe are sold with diesel engines. After the outbreak in September 2015 environmental scandal involving the use of deceptive software, it seemed that in the retail market, nothing has changed: the governments of the European Union is not forbidden to sell a diesel car, and buyers were in no hurry to change the priorities.

But gradually the share of vehicles running on "heavy fuel", began to decline. According to estimates by the research company JATO Dynamics, in February 2018, they accounted for only 39.5 % of the market of the Old world. now dominated by petrol cars with a share of 54 %. An additional 5.1 % are cars with alternative propulsion systems: hybrids and electric vehicles.

But in General, the European market feels more than confident. In February, sales rose by 4.2% to 1.16 million new cars. This is the highest figure since 2008, when there were 1.19 million cars.

The main growth again fell on the crossovers that have become popular by 24.7 % compared to February 2017. Now the SUV segment accounts for 33 % of the new car market. It is remarkable that if we separate all the other classes, then their sales fell by 3.6 %.
