Sales of passenger cars and light trucks in the US are jumping up and down

For the first four months from the beginning of 2018 the us market for passenger cars and Light trucks (SUVs, MPVs and pickups) varies between growth in February and March and the fall in January and April. Accordingly, sales in April fell 4.8 percent to 1.36 million, as the month was two working days shorter than last year. The result is adjusted according to the season of the annual revenue (SAAR) rose 1.1% to $17.1 billion

Fluctuations in sales in the U.S. market remind swing

These fluctuations complicate the prediction of the movement of the market in 2018, but rising prices for gasoline always bad news for automakers, especially those that depend heavily on output and profit from a fairly voracious pickups and SUV's. The annual rate on payments for the first four months of the year, is currently stable, although up to 2 percent growth in the first quarter and failed to reach.

The share of Light trucks in the sales structure rose to 68.5%, the highest level this year and the second in absolute value since December of last year. The share of North American automakers (the"Big three" and Tesla) was 46.3%, the highest level since February of 2016, and their growth occurred mainly at the expense of Japanese brands, whose share fell to 36.1%, the lowest figure for April in the last two years. The share of the European brands remained stable at a level slightly less than 10%, while the Koreans showed the highest share in the last 12 months is 7.9%.

Korean Hyundai again ahead of the Japanese Subaru, despite the 8.6 percent loss for the first, but the Japanese brand is in positive trend for 77 months and remains ahead of its Korean rival.

The RAM brand has surpassed competitor to the GMC for the first time in the last six months and entered Top-10 of brands. Sales of both brands fell by about 9%.

In the premium segment (luxury) brand Mercedes-Benz continues to lead the way with a 1% increase to 27 207 units. (not including Sprinter vans), but BMW showed an increase of 3.8% to 23 482 units, and the Lexus has reduced sales by 2.1% to 21 642 units.

Buick and Chrysler, and a number of premium brands to the second level, such as Acura, Infiniti and Lincoln have lost from 10% to 20%, but the Jaguar crashed much stronger – by 37.5%, and Genesis, which is 26.5%. Both brands this year will add important new items in its model lineup: Jaguar – a compact crossover E-Pace electric SUV and I-Pace, and Genesis – a medium-class sedan G70.
