Global sales of passenger cars and light commercial models (LCV) in 2016 increased by 5.6% compared to the year 2015, amounting to about 84 240 000 units, according to the analytical Agency JATO Dynamics Ltd, and a number of markets, including, unfortunately, the Russian continued falling sales. In addition to the us with a decline of 2.8% (1 353 463 units), the list of countries with negative dynamics of the automotive market also hit Brazil (-19,8%, 1 986 436 units), Japan (1.6 million%, 4 897 072 units), South Africa (-11,4%, 520 404 units), Malaysia (-13,3%, 562 590 units) and South Korea (-0,8%, 1 785 512 units).

The decline in sales in these countries were offset by sales growth in major world markets – particularly in China (car market No. 1), despite a decline in early 2016 due to state sales restrictions on the purchase of vehicles in the private sector, at year-end the growth rate eventually reached the double-digit mark (25 525 730 units, a plus of 14.2% excluding Taiwan), and increased sales in the United States (17 553 448 units, plus 0.4%) and Western Europe (15 141 326 units, plus 6.5 percent).

Among emerging markets, the best result in sales in 2016 has been made in India (3,317,572 units, a growth of 8.4%), and the highest sales growth was recorded in the "banana-lemon" Singapore (plus of 48.2%, 98 752 pieces).

Among world's largest producers of sales results for almost all brands showed positive dynamics, despite the obvious difficulties the Volkswagen from "disilicate". The first result of the newly revealed Toyota (7 247 524 units, +2.7%) and the highest growth among the brands showed Mercedes-Benz, for the first time in the history of stepped 2-millionnew mark (+9,3%, 2 037 373 units), Renault (+14.4% 1 793 908 units, one of the secrets of success – Indian model Kwid), Buick (+16,2%, 1 429 679 units), Kia (+9.6% yoy 2 698 718 units) Land Rover (+15.4% in 377 878 units) and Jeep (+13,4%, 1 395 103 units, more than the "parent" brand of Fiat). It is easy to notice among the leaders in terms of growth – brands-manufacturers of SUVs and crossovers.

Among the models were again the first family of Ford F-Series (+7,7%, 986 660 units) and Toyota Corolla (+0,9%, 952 576 units), and the largest increase has demonstrated the growing popularity of crossovers – the Hyundai Tuscon (+130.8 á%, 577 036 units), Nissan X-Trail/Rogue (+23.4 per cent, 766 729 units) and Honda HR-V/Vezel/XR-V (724 769 units, +38.4 per cent).
