Sales of pickup trucks remained the bright spot in the statistics of the market over the last two years, abruptly began to lose its position as nereguliruemyi measures taken by Beijing three years ago in terms of their use in urban areas, stalled.
In terms of the most severe in 30 years of decline in new car sales, Beijing more than ever, it is necessary to push by the provinces to the authorization for pickup trucks enter the city.
Most Chinese cities are overpopulated and suffer from air pollution. Pickups are frequently equipped with diesel engines have long been considered commercial vehicles which are accused that they have worsened traffic congestion and air pollution, but because they are banned in the cities.
The situation began to change in 2016 after Beijing chose some inland provinces and regions for the pilot programme for the abolition of restrictions on the operation of the pick-UPS in cities with the aim of stimulating the local economy.
In this case, from 31 provinces and region in mainland China, only six to Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, Yunnan, Hubei and Xinjiang, weakened to different degrees by the end of 2018 such restrictions on the use of pickups.
However, deregulation has already proved effective in saturation of pent up demand for pickups. So, for the last two years, their sales in China grew double digits.
In addition, China planned another fundamental shift is that now the pickups are increasingly used to transport people, not cargo. As a result, consumers switched to pickup trucks with a gasoline engine instead of diesel.
In response to the changing needs of local consumers, General Motors and Ford Motor are now deploying in China: imported pickups such as the Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado and the Ford F-150 Raptor.
This trend continued to rise this year. So according to China Association of automobile manufacturers (SAAM) in the first half of 2019 sales of diesel pickups rose 32% to 68 million, while deliveries of diesel pickup trucks fell by 13% to approximately 160 thousand
After July 1 in most cities of coastal China adopted new rules on vehicle emissions, corresponding to state standard State 6, similar to the rules of the Euro-6, many domestic Chinese manufacturers of pickups have upgraded their models, so they can drive in these cities.
The two largest domestic manufacturer of pickup trucks Great Wall Motor Co. and SAIC Motor Corp. this year has released the pickups of a new generation equipped with modern petrol engines with turbo and 8-speed automatic transmissions.
However, while manufacturers of pickups try to present superior products, the process of administrative deregulation associated with their use, has stalled.
So, in June of Shandong province in East China has become one in which the use of pickups has deregulirovanie.
According to Beijing web site cnpickups sales of pickup trucks in China in the first seven months of this year dropped by 1% to 246 thousand.
Sales of pickup trucks are urgently needed to support the Chinese automotive market, where new car sales are down for the 13th consecutive month, as in July they fell by 11% to 1.41 million
The days when diesel pickups were already gone.
In most domestic provinces and regions of China still has a ten-year ban on the use of pickups in the cities. Beijing need more press on local authorities to weaken environmental acumen.
