Japan has traditionally been associated with advanced technical solutions. This time, Japanese engineers stunned the world by passenger car, in which almost all the elements are made of plastic.

According to the Professor of the University of Tokyo ito, Kozo (Kozo Ito), the prototype is 90%, and various types of plastics. To produce some elements that require a particularly high stiffness and strength, scientists had to invent new types of polymers.

The team led by Kozo ito began the study in 2014. The aim of the project was not just making plastic machines for the amusement of the public, and investigation of potential new materials that could reduce vehicle weight. This is particularly important for electric vehicles, whose reserve is substantially increased by relief.

In particular, a new plastic had to be created to replace the glass. Engineers have created a material that incorporates the quality of the hard but brittle plastic and durable, but soft polycarbonate. At the current moment this transparent plastic is really tested, including safety: it is important that the accident had not formed any sharp edges that threaten the life and health of passengers. According to Mr. ito, some Japanese manufacturers are already interested in the possibility of purchasing this substitute for glass.

As a result of all of the car tricks, consisting of plastic by 90 %, was approximately 40% lighter counterpart, manufactured using traditional materials. But while he has the status of a concept. Japanese television has shown a chassis layout. Question of mass production is not.
