It was organized by telecommunications giant Ericsson
It is considered that one of the key vehicles of the future cities will become compact electric pods with drone control. Apparently, in some countries, this future has already arrived: the roads of Sweden was run on a similar minibus. His first flight he made in the end of January.
A new project was organized by telecommunications giant Ericsson, who enlisted the support of local companies KTH, Urban ICT Arena, Nobina, SJ and Klövern. Together they have developed a smart bus with electric drive. All the technical details were not disclosed. We only know that the interior is designed for 11 passengers, and the maximum speed does not exceed 24 km/h.
At the core of the drone is the architecture of the Ericsson Connected Urban Transport. It allows you to monitor the Autonomous control system through the connection to networks of the next generation — 5G. Provides for manual remote control in case of failure or unexpected problems. The machine is able to communicate with "smart" traffic lights and stops.
Across the city from the new unmanned pods is no special sense: in Stockholm on the flight came just two machines, and they travel the route only a mile. To ride on public transport of the future can be anyone, and you do not even have to pay.
The pilot project is planned for six months. Within six months, the organizers intend to identify weaknesses of the design and to test the adaptability of the car to various weather conditions.
