New testing methodology will appear in 3-5 years
Amazing that in Russia there is the automotive industry, but not own methods of testing cars for safety. It seems that we are stuck somewhere in the early XX century. The U.S. is using the ratings NHTSA and IIHS, in Europe — known Euro NCAP. But this is only the most famous and authoritative. In China since 2006 conducted crash tests by the method of C-NCAP, in Australia according to ANCAP. Needless to say, even in South America has its own NCAP — Latin NCAP. It's hard to imagine how far behind our country. Only now the government has started to discuss the initiative to create their own methods of testing.
The development of the test deals with Rosstandart. Representatives of the office told reporters "Izvestia"that method will be called RuNCAP ("the Russian program for the new car assessment").
While the methodology of the crash tests is only going to start to develop. It is assumed that the two key tests will be frontal and side impact, which can also be used in the systems of other States. But not limited to: specialists of Rosstandart believe that you will also need to test the operation of the system of exchange rate stabilization, adaptive cruise control and even intelligent complexes capable of preventing an accident. To help Rosstandart come specialists of the Institute "NAMI".
Most likely, some tests for the sake of reducing costs will be replaced by computer simulation. Thus a high probability that the main test will be copied from Euro NCAP. And in General there is nothing wrong. First, even with the never-ending flow of criticism towards the European methodology, it is one of the best in the world. Second, ensuring identical conditions will allow for comparison of the models tested in different countries (albeit very tentatively).
The study tests RuNCAP will take three to pay years. Meanwhile, in the Rosstandart don't even know who and how to buy cars for crash tests. Perhaps manufacturers will oblige themselves to supply new vehicles for research.
It is assumed that the test results RuNCAP will be published on public sites. But this is not enough: as practice shows, not all Russian motorists care about their own safety. Many simply will not take into account the rating of RuNCAP when buying a car, so the only universal tool in the fight against deaths on the road will be the introduction of constraints "from above": the state should ban selling the most dangerous of the model. Another thing is that this step would bring the market the most affordable car that is also not an optimal solution.
