The competition "Car of the year Japan" (JCOTY) celebrated this year its 40th anniversary and all 69 members of his jury, representing the 40 most influential automotive publications in the country, gathered in the Tokyo international trade center to choose the best cars the Japanese market in 2019. Dozens of heads of OEMs witnessed the ceremony of counting the votes and award prizes in different nominations of the contest "Japanese car of the Year" for this year.
In the original list, which included 35 new models of passenger cars on the Japanese market from 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019, was only 13 models of Japanese brands, however, half a dozen of them were in the final shortlist of ten contenders for the title.
On the eve of voting for the winner was supposed to be a battle between the Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda3 with the BMW 3-Series, is also considered as most anticipated contender for the title "Import car of the year" (Import Car). This fight took place, as the RAV4 easily gained 436 votes, having won a convincing victory, winning the title of "Car of the year 2019 in Japan."
Experts emphasized the high comfort of the crossover, a great and "friendly" handling, and a roomy trunk. They also appreciated the possibility to choose from three all-wheel drive systems, where in addition to the traditional scheme Dynamic Torque Control AWD available version with two separate clutches on the rear wheels, and the hybrid version with electric motor on the rear axle.
Accordingly Mazda3 fourth generation (BP) took only the second place with 328 votes, while the BMW 3-Series finished with 290 votes that gave her the award for Import Car.
Next Toyota Corolla 12th generation (Е210) took 4th place with 118 votes, I electrocreaser Jaguar-Pace (JLR D7e) was 5th with 109 votes, and 6th place was the Jeep Wrangler (JL) with 56 votes.
Special awards the Jeep Wrangler received the award Emotional Award ("most emotional") for its powerful off-road ability, and Nissan Skyline was awarded the Innovation Award for its world's first semi-Autonomous control system ProPilot 2.0 "hands-off". Trophy Small Mobility got a single-platform K-cars Mitsubishi eK and Nissan Dayz Cross.
Perhaps the most unusual for us are Japanese K-cars – the kids are clearly marked with dimensions (3,6x1,4x2 m) and with engine capacity of not more than 660 cm3
