Sedan Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 sample of 1968, known at home as a /8 ("the bar act") entered the world of cinema as an iconic standard style three-volumetric sedan, while combining great reliability and excellent comfort, and even prodvinutij to the masses (at least taxi drivers in many countries of the world) passenger diesel, becoming the first truly popular sedan of business class (over 1.85 million) from the Mercedes-Benz brand.
Independent German industrial designer David Obendorfer has developed a design project of Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the style of the iconic "the bar act" under the name of Icon E based on a retro-style sedan model 1968 manufactured before January 1976.
He made emphasis on the most characteristic features of the style "bar akhta" – vertical block-Farah (one of the first in the world), the classic three-box profile (a style icon), a signature chrome grille in the shape of a shield and chrome rim horn steering wheel that Obendorfer was able to reinterpret in a modern key.
Unfortunately, the design project Icon E only a private initiative of a stylist, and the Daimler AG has to it any relation. However, Obendorfer initially assessed the feasibility of Icon E in the form of a real sample. This serves as a basis for the project – serial E-Class W213 generation current is subjected to full replacement of all exterior panels while maintaining the power structures of the body. My project Obendorfer dedicated to the two great chief designers Mercedes-Benz – Field Marriage, the direct Creator of the original W114/W115 and Bruno Sacco, who led the design division of Mercedes-Benz in the years 1975-1999.
So far, the project Obendorfer offered only in the form of 3D models, but in the presence of a sponsor can be translated exists only in the form of computer mathematical models, but if you are an investor, maybe the project will be implemented in the real sample. PS Remember that the image of the front of it W114/W115 was my favorite model in my school notebooks, but... is it Possible to step into the same river twice. In my opinion, VW New Beatle and the Chrysler PT Cruiser has demonstrated that at best is a niche product, and at worst simply kitsch. By the way, the creation of Oberdorfer vaguely resembles some (already taken, however, with the production of the Japanese model) at both the front and rear. So, with all due respect to the Maestro, his project, probably will remain another amusing exercise in style "designers joke".
