The new system will bring several advantages
For two decades one of the most hackneyed tricks that designers use in the automotive concepts is the rear camera. They are installed instead of side mirrors, and images are displayed on monitors installed in the cabin. But now this system will finally appear on the production car. Barely a century! And who is the pioneer?
The innovative option will be available for the sedan Lexus ES the new generation. Digital Outer Mirror involves the installation of two cameras. They are located on thin legs in place of conventional mirrors. The picture is shown on a separate five-inch screens in the cabin.
Supposedly the camera improve overview: they don't get dirty in inclement weather (the modules themselves are installed deep into the casing). Plus, a digital picture may be imposed additional tips for the driver. For example, the system might tell you that at the moment it is better not to reorganize into another lane adjacent the vehicle may be too close. Plus, the manufacturer was able to reduce aerodynamic drag and noise.
Whether winning copayment for Digital Outer Mirror? While the price of the new options are not reported, but it is unlikely to be cheap: the manufacturer will have to pay for two cameras, two screens and other electronics. Prices here are not as for a simple camera from the Chinese store: car companies like to charge even for quite ordinary triple the price tag. But the first time the owners of these cars can feel like pioneers.
Digital Outer Mirror will be available for Lexus sedan ES in the next month. However, to buy a car with this option the first time will only be possible in Japan. Soon this practice spread to other countries and brands: here are the first models of Audi and Mitsubishi with the same function.
