Bosch has introduced a curved display for vehicles

The first innovative screen got Volkswagen Touareg

A few decades ago appeared first CRT televisions and monitors with a flat (i.e. non-convex) screen, and then replaced them throughout the LCD panel. Since then, trends in the world of tech has changed several times, and several years ago began to appear the TVs and monitors with a curved display. In the foreseeable future, this fashion has come to the world of machines.

Bosch told about the curved screen of the dashboard Innovision Cockpit, which made its debut on the new generation Volkswagen Touareg. According to the manufacturer, this is the first in the industry use such a screen in a production car.

The Bosch talk about the same advantages as the developers of curved monitors and televisions. If you sit in front of the conventional display, the distance between the eye and different points on the screen surface will be correspondingly different (i.e. smaller when you look in the center and more when you look at the corners). This changes the angle of view.

When using the screen with the correct curvature, it is possible to achieve this effect, and in which the distance between fascia and eye, and the angle of view will be approximately constant. Supposedly this enhances the comfort of the eyes and improves readability. The manufacturers of such monitors and TVs also usually start to rant about the "effect of immersion", but in the case of a relatively small instrument panels to talk about it is not necessary.

Plus, due to the complicated shapes could slightly increase the size of the screen. So, other things being equal in the Volkswagen Touareg managed to embed the display of 12.3 inches instead of 11.4. As with additional technologies, engineers managed to reduce reflection of light from the display surface to more than four times that the car will be especially important. This way you can reduce the amount of solar glare.

In the near future, range of models with curved screens will increase significantly, and while the novelty will be only buyers of Volkswagen Touareg.
