As from next year the European Commission intends to introduce a limit on the carbon dioxide emissions for all light vehicle emissions at 95 g/km. Thus, the produced and sold during a calendar year, the cars of each manufacturer should not throw more than 95 g CO2 per kilometer, otherwise the manufacturer imposed heavy fines. This, of course, benefit those brands in the product line of which there is a sufficient number of electric vehicles and rechargeable hybrids.
So, it is a concern Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (in the power of persuasion of the late former head of Sergio Marchionne that electric vehicles for Fiat brand is too expensive, and for the brand of the Ram is useless) actually turned out to be without a "green" automobile models in the lineup. However, the Italian-American automaker has found a loophole in EU law that allows him to avoid paying fines.
Under the agreement signed between the two automakers, now the Tesla will be included in the model range of Fiat. This will allow the latter to show the average emissions level permissible trims, because the emissions of cars Tesla is equal to zero. Actually the same thing Tesla does in the US, selling emission quotas to the traditional automakers.
Terms of the deal are unknown, but analysts estimate it at hundreds of millions of euros. Thus, this agreement will allow Tesla to income that is important to her in the background of the weak performance of the first quarter of 2019.
However, this transaction is clearly temporary, as the FCA under the new leadership will certainly try to infiltrate the market in PEV. Although, today Fiat Chrysler is far behind competitors in the production of electric vehicles and hybrids, but in the coming years will launch its own line of "green" cars.
