Toyota Land Cruiser 70 is one of the most legendary SUVs. It began producing in the first half of the 80s, in some countries it is still for sale! Yes, over the past 30 plus years it has been repeatedly upgraded, but it's still good old Land Cruiser 70. It seems that modern electric cars are the complete opposite: they do not produce harmful emissions, not prepared for tough conditions, and stuffed with electronics. However, the Australian company Voltra combined two worlds in one model: she has built an electric version of the Toyota Land Cruiser 70.

The extraordinary SUV was created at the request of the mining company BHP. As the basis was the selected modification Toyota Land Cruiser 79, which is a truck with a side platform and a single-row cabin. He lost diesel V8, automatic transmission and fuel tank. Their place was taken by the electric motor and lithium-ion batteries.

The electric motor produces 90 horsepower and 106 N·m in the nominal mode and 141 horsepower and 256 N·m at the peak. By the standards of similar projects the capacity of the traction battery is quite good — 42,2 kW∙h

Electric car received the name Voltra eCruiser. While it is built in a single copy which shall be tested in conditions of real exploitation. The interest of the company BHP is easy to explain: these SUVs are used not only on the surface, but directly in the mines. Given the weak ventiliruemosti getting rid of harmful emissions will significantly improve the already difficult working conditions of local miners.
