Ultimately, it is people who build cars which have become key to success: our team in Saxony develops a two-year cycle of conversion, which has culminated in the current SOP with a lot of know-how and competencies. This is an outstanding achievement for our team!".

Herbert Diess added, "With strong membership in electric mobility, Volkswagen is making an important contribution to climate protection and thereby creates a long-term prospect for about 100,000 employees at its German factories. Germany must be ahead on innovation and improve the level of skills throughout the value chain of electromobility. That's why we not only produce (complete ed.) electric cars in Germany, but at the same time took the decision to design and manufacture electric motors and rechargeable cells and batteries. In the coming years Germany will be a powerful cluster for the production of electric vehicles."

In addition to the production at the plant in Zwickau, factories for the production of components ID.3 are in Brunswick, Kassel, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg. They produce key components such as motors or battery systems. Automotive plants in Emden and Hannover, as planned, will start producing electric vehicles in 2022. In addition, the Volkswagen Group is also working with startup Northvolt to build a major plant for the production of batteries in Salzgitter.
