In April, the number of registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEV) in Norway increased by 25% compared with last year, despite the fact that the total market fell by 20%, and cars with all other types of engines fell, which led to a significant increase in the share of BEV (40%) in the market, which is significantly more than 25 percent growth in April 2018.

In this context, the current PEV share of 58% in 2019, is expected to grow to more than 65%, and the peak months can reach 75%.

So today a standard type of vehicle in Norway already is BEV (40%), i.e. a pure electric car, while the popularity of all other types of cars by type of fuel (ICE) is significantly reduced, for example, the share of gasoline cars dropped to 20% (one year ago was 26%), and diesel cars – up to 18%. Even plug-in hybrids (PHEV) are significantly shrunk up to half the share that they held in the past year, their share amounted to only 10%.

Tesla Model 3 could not resist on top

Last month the leader of the Norwegian Tesla Model 3 sales went on the decline, so its registration was only 720 units, which allowed the VW e-Golf to be a bestseller of April with registrations of the 911 units, which was the best result for this brand for the last 6 months.

Outside the podium was the Audi e-Tron, remaining in 5th place with 371 units, ahead of the Jaguar i-Pace (350 units).

If you look at the rankings for the four months of 2019, after the earthquake (caused by a break Model 3), in April it was much better the most important changes occurred only at seventh position with which i Jaguar-Pace dismissed Hyundai Ioniq Electric.

As for the rating of manufacturers, Tesla remains the undisputed leader (27%, which is 3% higher than the previous result), followed by previous leaders Volkswagen (12%, up 1%) and BMW (11%), and Hyundai and Nissan by 9%, trying to reach the podium.

If the title of "Bestseller 2019" seems to have won Tesla Model 3, in 2020, perhaps Volkswagen will be able to succeed in ousting Tesla is a leader, but only provided that the increase in the production of hatchbacks ID.3 will run smoothly.

It seems that in Norway now applies the principle: buy an electric car or go back home.
