The company Renault presented this week at the exhibition in Paris VivaTech unmanned mini-Shuttle EZ-Pod – latest by size development in its series of electrical concepts "EZ". Double Autonomous vehicle designed to transport people and goods over short distances, the so-called "first or last mile."
Program Manager for robotics Renault Frederic Auzas said, "Ultracompact dimensions of the EZ-Pod – a total of only three per square meter on the road – allow the Shuttle to move freely in the narrow streets of the historical centers, pedestrian areas (speed limited to 6 km/h) and even to call in the building, for example, a kind of urban space".
the Newest minimobil EZ-Pod terminates a series of concepts presented by Renault over the past year, which includes compact utility electroforged EZ-Flex; robomobile premium EZ-Ultimo; larger roboforge with interchangeable container EZ-Pro that is able to work also in the virtual convoys and robotaxi EZ-Go, designed for use in car-sharing the future.
According to Ausas: "EZ-Pod is a robotic Autonomous platform for functional testing, based on the platform of Renault Twizy – double menisectomy that the EU klassificeret as "four wheeled bike". Accordingly, it is designed to work at low speeds – Renault calls it the "solution to micromobility with limited speed", which requires a relatively small number of sensors, which reduces costs." Seat for EZ-Pod is also taken from the Twizy, and the interior is made of resistant eco-friendly materials designed to make it easy to wash. The doorway is on the left side and door has (like the original Twizy).
Steering wheel and pedals have robocar, of course not. But a couple of seats there are also a couple of displays with information about the trip. The autopilot hardware includes front camera, lidar and radar near and far range, respectively, front and back. The location of the machine is monitored in real time by GPS.
Ausas also described the EZ-Pod, which was designed from the outset as an Autonomous vehicle, as "incomplete development" functions and configurations developing in accordance with user needs. Among the potential options for the use of the "first mile" and "last mile" is the transportation of children to school or elderly customers or parents with children in large car parks, hotels, shopping malls, campuses, instead of walk or ride in a local transport.
Renault also announced several partnerships and test programs in VivaTech. The automaker will test the van EZ-Flex with the French postal service to collect data that will help the company to design more advanced vehicles mobile delivery in cities.
The automaker also is launching a trial service on car sharing with the use of modified Renault Zoe electric vehicles in the new project of an Autonomous laboratory Paris-Saclay. The lab is a consortium of Renault with the transport company Transdev, the University of Paris-Saclay and other partners.
The mobile market emerged about ten years ago and by 2020 will reach almost €11 billion While the opportunities for it are many and the Group Renault is actively involved in the development of promising areas of mobile services of public access. PS the Theme of blade Abakarov is becoming more popular, for example, was marred earlier similar projects SEAT Minimo and Nuro R1..
