The next model will be a crossover based on LEAF
Today, Nissan is one of the leaders in production electric cars: the LEAF model is the first generation, launched in 2010, is still the most popular electric car in human history, while in 2017 began selling "Bodice" of the second generation. In the short term, the Japanese company is going to announce some "green" models.
Recently, the Nissan outlined a new strategy Move to 2022, according to which for four years will be presented eight new electric vehicles. With their help, the Japanese are going to ramp up annual output to one million electric cars by 2022.
The goal is ambitious, because in the entire history of the Nissan LEAF the first generation was released only about 300 000 copies (this line was crossed only in January 2018). No less uncertain is another task — to increase the share of electric vehicles in the total production to 40% by 2022 and 50% by 2025.
The next Nissan electric vehicle should be a crossover, built on the same platform as the new LEAF. Visually, this model will resemble the concept from IMx. Sales will begin in 2019. Nissan IMx had a cruising range of 600 kilometers and is equipped with two motors with a total capacity of 430 horsepower.
The chief designer of Nissan Europe Mamoru Aoki (Aoki Mamoru) describes promising crossover as a "breakthrough model". Along with Nissan to develop electric going direction and the sub-brand Infiniti: the first electric car will be released in 2021, and by 2025 the share of environmentally friendly transport should be half of the sales of premium brands.
