The world has lost one of its greatest industrial designers

Last week at 91 year of life died one of the greatest designers of the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries – the Maestro Luigi Colani (1928-2019).

During his long life, German engineer, designer and artist Maestro Colani has created the look of many things that changed our perception about the world. But it is especially distinguished in the field of automotive design, virtually creating the style with soft, rounded shapes and smooth lines, now called the "biodesign", firmly entrenched in the Arsenal of the world's design schools.

Luigi Colani comes from an Italian-Polish family in 1946, he graduated from Berlin Academy of arts in the class of sculpture and painting, then studied aerodynamics at the Sorbonne. In 1952, began working at the firm "McDonnell Douglas" in California on the topic of ultra-high speeds. Then in France designed sports cars and was awarded the "Golden rose" of the Geneva motor show of 1954 for the design of the body of the car Fiat 1100. In the 1960s Luigi Colani collaborated with companies such as Alfa Romeo, BMW, Lancia and Volkswagen.

My world is round". At the same time like Luigi Colani considered myself not a designer, but rather a philosopher, just watching and pereosmyslyaet decisions of nature, she accumulated over millions and billions of years of existence of the planet.

In addition to the concept cars (which for half a century have gathered about four dozen) Maestro Colani also developed the look of motorcycles, aircraft and helicopters, ships and submarines, houses and buildings, as well as such household "gadgets" including cell phones, TVs, cameras and watches.
