The government is afraid of competition from imported electric cars

Electric cars do not produce harmful emission, therefore, is considered environmentally friendly transport (leave the problem of "dirty" energy generating facilities out of the discussion of this problem). Some countries actively support this industry by providing state subsidies for the purchase, reducing taxes and offering other incentives. However, in Russia this topic is still taboo.

This situation is explained by the fact that the zero duty will have a negative impact on the development of electric cars production in Russia.

In the EEU zero rate of import duties on passenger cars with electric motors ceased to operate September 1, 2017. It is now a duty of 15 %.

The Ministry said that in the optimistic scenarios for the Russian automotive market by 2020 electric vehicles may be 1-1,5 % of the demand. Also, the Ministry noted that today in order to support the production and development of electric vehicle market implemented a program to stimulate demand for electric vehicles, including electric vehicles. The program will be implemented in 2018-2020. This program is estimated at half a billion rubles allocated from the Federal budget.

It's unclear what the electric cars of the Russian assemblage can be afraid of competition from imported counterparts, because in our country, yet they simply are not made.
