At the last event NextGen company BMW has presented a number of new technologies, but the sensation was the statement of the technical Director of the concern Klaus Frolikha, who spoke about the prospects of diesel power plants.
In particular, he announced that the classic internal combustion engines regardless of the type of the used fuel they would not leave the Assembly line of BMW for several decades. More specifically, BMW plans to keep the production of diesel versions of their passenger cars until 2040, and gasoline until 2050, but at the same time every five years to systematically shorten their product range. This forecast, Mr. Froelich made in connection with fears of growing scarcity and higher prices for raw materials for batteries used on electric vehicles (BEV).

At the same time on NextGen, BMW announced plans to release 25 models of electric cars already by 2023, and a dozen of them will be completely original new products.

PS Indeed, a glass or half full or half empty.
First, the leadership of the BMW with one hand objectively reinsured, assuming that diesel ICE (traditional cars) will still have the sale until 2040, and gasoline until 2050. Most of the countries of Europe by this time intend to not give up the fact that the purchase of new ICE, but to deny even their resale, i.e. fully electrify their fleets. Moreover in these days the manufacturers in China and in Europe are starting to receive such fines for carbon dioxide emissions that, for example, FiatChrysler already forced to take on the European market partners with Tesla, the goal is zero emissions of its electric vehicles in its lineup. So that the output efficiency of ICE is likely to fall even faster reduction in consumer demand. On the other hand, the global market will surely remain the place and the country where environmental restrictions are not as tough and the need for a new TC it is still can be met and cars with internal combustion engines. For example, in Russia emissions car COper kilometre, is fundamentally important in Europe, still has no role in marketing and advertising, and, obviously, the play will not be long.&In the end, by reducing the consumption of gasoline and diesel in the countries of "Golden billion", as well as in China, in other parts of the world have cheapened the oil still will be able to economically extend the operating life of a conventional internal combustion engine.

Second, it can be a guide BMW knows something we do not know? For example, that trading of the US war with China will eventually lead to retaliatory sanctions of China for the monopolization of its supply is required for battery raw materials for export? But, with the possible in the technologies of batteries and(or) hydrogen fuel cells in the coming years (and decades and decades for sure), the revolutionary changes and current resource concerns will be overcome as confident as similar concerns about the shortage of oil a century ago. Transformered and energy by going to wind and sun, so that even a fusion is not required.

As they say, wait and see..
